Mission

The South African Boatbuilders Export Council, SABBEX, is a National Export Council.  The council is a major contributor to establishing South Africa as a globally competitive boatbuilding export country, with sustainable export growth within the dti framework.

SABBEX has implemented a strategic plan, incorporating government stakeholder to promote the boatbuilding industry via means of:

• export promotion
• export development and
• market prioritisation

SABBEX has made it a mission to penetrate as many foreign markets as possible, thus building a platform for South African boat builders to demonstrate the quality of their products, enhancing their export opportunities.

Mission Objectives

SABBEX shall:

Promote and represent the common foreign market interests of the boat building industry in South Africa;

• Positively encourage and assist the boat builders of South Africa to achieve and maintain the optimum level of competitiveness both nationally and internationally, (i.e. delivery, service, price and quality);
• Facilitate synergy amongst its members;
• Effectively motivate international importers, designers and end-users to favour South African boats wherever competitively feasible;
• Lobby government and semi-government organisations in South Africa on behalf of the boat building industry;
• Promote foreign sales of boats by its members;
• Promote new investment and job creation in the boat building industry through (technology transfer and the encouragement of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to become involved);
• Establish a credible and acknowledged leadership role as the agency equipped and committed to national leadership in originating and maintaining organised programmes for the optimum attainment of the aims and objectives of SABBEX;
• Use its best endeavours to attain an in depth knowledge of its members, particularly with respect to their resources, facilities, and capabilities, to best be able to fulfil its objectives;
• Promote guided and rationalised foreign market growth within the industry and satellite service industries;
• Assist members (on an aggregated but not on an individual basis) with identified needs in such fields as foreign sales, education, training, marketing and promotion, technology and general;
• Promote the boat building industry (as represented by members) to current and possible purchasers or end-users, both in respect of standard products and specific projects, in foreign markets;
• Assimilate and transmit to members, current and potential converters and users, such up-to-date information or intelligence which could lead to growth of foreign sales for the boat building industry in Southern Africa;
• Organise and hold such functions and/or campaigns that will benefit SABBEX members generally or sub-sectors;
• Facilitate and exchange ideas within the boat building industry.

SABBEX shall not carry any profit making activities nor participate in any business, profession or occupation carried on by any of its members. Nor will it provide any financial assistance, premises, continuous services, or facilities to its members for the purpose of carrying on any business, profession or occupation by them or on an individual basis.
