Membership Defined
The SABBEX Constitution is very clear on the criteria and requirements for membership to SABBEX:
- All companies engaged in the South African boatbuilding industry shall, subject to the approval of the main committee, acting in good faith, and subject to the written acceptance of the code of conduct of SABBEX from time to time, be eligible for consideration as members of SABBEX.
- The SABBEX of this constitution, the code of conduct, any rules made by SABBEX from time to time as permitted in terms of this constitution, shall bind a member of SABBEX.
- Each member of SABBEX must nominate a natural person, which in the case of a member who is a natural person shall be deemed to be the member himself and an alternate. SABBEX will liase only with such representative. It is incumbent on the member to advise SABBEX of any change to such nominated persons.
- Membership of SABBEX shall not give any member a right to any of the assets of SABBEX, but only confers the privilege of membership subject to compliance with clause 11.2 and the payment of any membership fees imposed from time to time.
- No resignation by any member shall be recognised unless it is delivered to SABBEX in writing. Any member resigning during a financial year shall not be entitled to the return of any portion of his membership fee.
- A member of SABBEX shall cease to be a member if such member’s membership is terminated by resolution of the main committee on grounds that, in the absolute discretion of the main committee, justify such termination of membership.
- If any order whether provisional or final is granted for the liquidation or sequestration of any member of SABBEX, other than for the purpose of a re-organisation, such member shall ipso facto cease to remain a member of SABBEX.
It is incumbent on us to inform you that the SABBEX is a voluntary organization, and is therefore not obliged to automatically accept applicants. Every applicant is rigorously screened to ensure that members are of the highest possible standing. Unsuccessful applicants will have their fee refunded in full.

Membership Process
Applications will only be processed if the signed Membership Form is accompanied by your membership fee.
- Membership subscription fees need to be paid annually, or membership will elapse.
- The financial year runs from March to the end of February. Following any revision of fees, such revised amounts will be invoiced by SABBEX and become due and payable on presentation. Membership needs to be renewed annually.
FULL MEMBERSHIP for companies directly involved in the manufacture and export of watercrafts: R7,000.
AFFILIATED MEMBERSHIP for companies not directly involved in the manufacturing of boats for exports: R3,000
EMERGING EXPORTER MEMBERSHIP for newly established companies (less than 2 years) or companies new to exporting (less than 2 years): R2,000
SABBEX reserves the right to cancel membership by decision of the SABBEX Board. Memberships which are cancelled will not be eligible for a refund.
